We confirm all costs in writing before commencing any work on your property. - House rewiring: from £70 an hour; from £70 an hour - The price covers all electrical cabling, standard white accessories, consumer unit installation, and mandatory certification. - The overall cost varies based on property size, the number of circuits required, and whether the building is occupied or empty. - Making good such as plastering or painting following cable chasing is arranged separately from the electrical installation. ## House rewiring across Wimborne Minster We serve Wimborne Minster from our base in Poole. - Wimborne town centre - Leigh Road - Allenview - BH21 ## What happens on the day Rewiring is a substantial project, so we follow a clear procedure to maintain safety and keep the property tidy throughout the installation. ### Initial property survey Before any tools are unpacked, we walk the house with you to confirm the positions of sockets, switches, lights, and consumer units, noting any specific appliance requirements. ### Circuit isolation and first fix Old circuits are disconnected to eliminate live hazards. New cables are pulled under floorboards, through ceilings, and chased into masonry walls to establish the rough wiring runs. ### Second fix accessory installation Once wall surfaces are ready, faceplates, light pendants, and switch plates are connected. The new metal consumer unit is mounted, neatly terminated, and labelled circuit by circuit. ### Testing and handover Each circuit undergoes insulation resistance, continuity, and earth loop impedance testing. We check that every device operates correctly before walking you through the controls on the new consumer unit. ## Frequently asked questions about house rewiring ### How do I know if my house needs rewiring? Warning signs include cables with black rubber, lead, or fabric sheathing, an older wooden-backed fuse box with rewireable fuses, persistent burning smells, or round-pin sockets. An electrical inspection will confirm if the wiring has reached the end of its safe operational life. ### Can I stay in my home while it is being rewired? Yes, many homeowners remain in the property during the work. We organize the installation room by room and ensure that essential power points remain active at the end of each working day, although there will be dust and lifted floorboards while cables are run. ### Will a house rewire include a new consumer unit? Yes, every complete rewire includes the installation of a modern metal consumer unit. The new board separates your lighting, sockets, and heavy appliances onto dedicated circuits protected by residual current devices. ### Does rewiring work cover plaster repairs and decorating? Rewiring covers all electrical components, cable paths, back boxes, and faceplates. Cutting chases into plaster and lifting floorboards is necessary to conceal cables, but final plaster skimming and redecoration are handled by a builder or decorator. ### Can you rewire only an extension or a single floor? Yes, partial rewires are common when adding a home extension, converting a loft, or updating a kitchen. We install new circuits for the modified areas and connect them back to your existing consumer unit if it has sufficient spare capacity. ## Other services in Wimborne Minster - [Electrician in Wimborne Minster](https://mx2-electrical-ltd.co.uk/electrician-wimborne-minster): Electrical testing, fault finding, repairs and planned installation work across Wimborne Minster, Leigh Road, Allenview and BH21. - [House rewiring (all areas)](https://mx2-electrical-ltd.co.uk/services/house-rewiring): House rewiring in Poole and Dorset by MX2 Electrical.
