What happens on the day
Every appliance testing visit follows a structured sequence from visual inspection through to functional electrical metering and item logging.
- Visual examination of plugs and flexesWe look over each plug top, cable grip, flexible lead, casing and power switch to detect fraying, cracking, burns or loose wiring before plugging the item into a tester.
- Electrical instrument testingUsing calibrated testing instruments, we run earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity checks on each plug-in device to detect internal electrical faults.
- Status marking and item taggingEvery tested appliance receives a durable sticker indicating whether it passed or failed the electrical checks, alongside an individual reference number for your records.
- Documentation and debriefBefore leaving the premises, we provide an appliance register detailing every item tested and explain any equipment that failed and needs removal from service.

What items need PAT testing?
Any electrical item that connects to a standard socket using a plug requires testing. This includes office computers, monitors, extension cables, kettles, microwaves, workshop power tools, vacuum cleaners and portable heaters.
Do landlords in Parkstone need to test appliances?
Landlords providing electrical goods such as washing machines, fridges, kettles or lamps in furnished rentals should have them tested regularly to confirm they remain safe for tenants to plug in and use.
What happens if an appliance fails testing?
When an item fails visual or electrical testing, we tag it with a fail sticker, take it out of service, and inform you immediately. Putting the appliance right or replacing it can be arranged as a separate job.
Does PAT testing include fixed wiring and sockets?
No. Portable appliance testing only inspects the plug-in equipment itself. Fixed wiring, wall sockets, light fittings and consumer units are assessed under an Electrical Installation Condition Report, known as an EICR.
How often should portable appliances be tested?
Testing frequency depends on the environment and how frequently equipment is handled. Heavy-duty tools on construction sites require frequent testing, whereas low-risk office computers usually require less frequent checks.
