House rewiring across Christchurch
We serve Christchurch from our base in Poole.
What happens on the day
We complete rewiring work systematically room by room so you understand each stage of the project and maintain working power where possible while work takes place.
- Circuit isolation and initial cable planningWe walk through the property to confirm your preferred socket and lighting points before switching off power to the working zones. We isolate old cables so open terminations are not left live, keeping essential circuits functioning in untouched rooms whenever feasible.
- Cable installation and back box positioningWe lift floorboards and chase walls where agreed to run low-smoke twin and earth cabling throughout the property. New metal or dry-lining back boxes are fitted, ceiling points are dropped for light fittings, and main bonding clamps are attached to incoming water and gas pipes.
- Consumer unit fitting and circuit terminationThe old fuse board is disconnected and replaced with a metal consumer unit fitted with individual miniature circuit breakers and surge protection devices. Every conductor is terminated, labelled by room and function, and prepared for final diagnostic testing.
- System testing and safety certificationWe carry out comprehensive earth loop impedance, continuity and insulation resistance tests on every new circuit. Once all measurements verify compliance with safety standards, we issue your formal Electrical Installation Certificate and hand over the completed system.

What factors influence the total price of a house rewire?
The overall price depends on the number of bedrooms, the quantity of light fittings and socket outlets you select, and how easily cables can be routed through your floors and ceilings. Hard concrete floors, solid brick walls, and occupied properties requiring daily cleanups will take longer than vacant properties with accessible floorboards.
Do I have to leave the house while the rewiring takes place?
You do not necessarily have to move out, although rewiring does create dust, lifting floorboards and temporary power shutdowns. We work in distinct phases to keep essential circuits operating where possible, but vacating the premises allows the work to progress much faster.
How many days does a standard house rewire take to complete?
A straightforward one or two bedroom flat typically takes several working days. Larger three or four bedroom houses can take between one and two weeks, depending on the complexity of the lighting layout, appliance requirements and routing access.
Does a house rewire include wall plastering and redecorating?
Our rewiring covers all electrical elements, including cutting cable chases, running cables, mounting back boxes, installing the consumer unit and certifying the installation. Making good with wet plaster, skimming walls, joinery work and final decorating are handled separately by building trade professionals.
Will I receive official certificates after the rewire is finished?
Yes. When the rewiring and testing are complete, we issue an Electrical Installation Certificate detailing all circuit test readings. As MX2 Electrical is NAPIT registered, the work is formally notified to local authority building control, and you will receive your compliance certificate.
