What happens on the day
Visits are planned methodically so that work on your roof space and main electrical board proceeds smoothly without unnecessary disruption to your power.
- Inspection of earthing and distribution boardsBefore mounting components, we inspect the incoming electricity service, verify main protective bonding to pipework, and isolate the supply safely to confirm there is adequate capacity for the new generation circuit.
- Mounting equipment and running dedicated cablesWe secure the solar inverter, fit lockable AC and DC isolator switches near the hardware, and route fire-rated cabling from the roof connection down to the distribution board using secure containment.
- System testing and energisationOnce the wiring is terminated, we run dead and live electrical tests to confirm insulation resistance, polarity and earthing before powering up the inverter and monitoring generation output.

Does my consumer unit need changing for solar panels?
It depends on whether your existing fuse board has a spare way and can accommodate bidirectional circuit breakers. During the initial inspection, we verify if your current unit is suitable or if a modern consumer unit upgrade is required.
Can battery storage be integrated later?
Yes. If a hybrid inverter is installed initially, a compatible battery unit can be added directly at a later date. Alternatively, an AC-coupled battery system with its own inverter can be fitted independently alongside your existing solar PV setup.
How is the local electricity network notified?
Standard domestic installations up to 3.68kW per phase are registered under Engineering Recommendation G98. We complete the formal notification and submit the commissioning documentation directly to the regional distribution network operator once testing is finished.
Do solar panels produce power on overcast days?
Solar photovoltaic cells operate on daylight rather than direct heat or unbroken sunshine. Output will naturally be lower than on bright summer afternoons, but the array continues to generate electricity during cloudy weather across Dorset.
What documentation will I receive after installation?
You receive a British Standard electrical installation certificate detailing all test results for the new circuit. We also register the notifiable work through our NAPIT membership for building regulations compliance.
