What happens on the day

We turn up at the scheduled time, protect floors and work surfaces, and explain every cable run and component location before beginning work on your electrical system.

  • System survey and electrical isolationWe inspect your main service head, earthing type, and consumer unit spare capacity. Electrical power to relevant consumer unit circuits is isolated safely before opening enclosures.
  • Mounting gear and cable routingThe inverter, isolator switches, and any metering equipment are fixed firmly to structural walls. We run fire-rated cabling between the solar array isolator and the distribution board.
  • Testing and system commissioningWe carry out dead testing for continuity and insulation resistance, followed by live voltage and polarity checks. Once energised, we verify generation export and inverter operation.

Frequently asked questions about solar PV installation

Still have a question?

Will my consumer unit need changing to connect solar panels?

Not always. Your consumer unit needs an available spare way and must be capable of housing a bidirectional circuit breaker. If the current board lacks spare ways, is fully loaded, or uses older wire fuses, we can install a small dedicated generation consumer unit alongside it or quote for a modern consumer unit replacement.

Can battery storage be added to my solar setup in the future?

Yes. If you install a hybrid inverter now, battery storage can usually be wired directly to it at a later date. Alternatively, an AC-coupled battery system with its own inverter can be connected to your consumer unit on a separate circuit down the line.

Who informs the electricity network operator about the solar installation?

We manage the formal paperwork for the distribution network operator. Standard domestic installations generating up to 3.68kW per single phase fall under Engineering Recommendation G98, which allows us to notify the network operator directly following testing and commissioning.

Do solar panels generate electricity on overcast days in Bournemouth?

Yes. Solar photovoltaic panels react to daylight rather than heat or direct sunlight alone. Generation drops during heavily overcast weather compared to bright sunny days, but your system will still supply electricity to offset household consumption.

What electrical paperwork do I get after the solar connection is completed?

We issue an Electrical Installation Certificate that details the design, construction, inspection, and test results of the new generation circuit. We also register the installation through NAPIT, which arranges your building regulations compliance certificate.
