- Fitting the new consumer unitThe old enclosure comes off. The new consumer unit is fixed, tails and earth are landed, and each circuit is terminated onto its breaker and residual current device.
- Testing and the recordWe test continuity, insulation and residual current trip times, restore power, walk you through the labels, and leave the completion record for the installation.

How long is the power off?
Most domestic boards take a few hours with the supply isolated. Larger commercial boards take longer. We restore each circuit as soon as it is landed and tested rather than waiting until every way is finished.
Do I need a new board after an EICR?
Only if the report names the consumer unit. Old rewirable fuses, missing residual current protection, or damaged enclosures are the usual reasons. We quote the board from the report and from what we see in the cupboard.
Will the new board fit in the same cupboard?
Often yes. Metal and plastic consumer units are a different depth and width from old fuse boxes, so a tight meter cupboard in a Parkstone or Westbourne flat may need a slightly different layout. We say so before we book the fit.
Who registers the work?
MX2 Electrical is with NAPIT. Where the consumer unit change is notifiable, we notify through that scheme and you receive the certificate for the installation.
