Electric shower installation across Westbourne
We serve Westbourne from our base in Poole.
What happens on the day
Every installation follows a methodical process from electrical isolation to final testing. We make sure the appliance is securely mounted, pipework is water-tight, and electrical connections are thoroughly inspected.
- Circuit isolation and safety checksWe isolate the shower supply at the main consumer unit and test the terminals to confirm no voltage remains. We inspect the cable diameter, the condition of the pull-cord or wall switch, and verify that appropriate RCD protection is present on the circuit.
- Appliance removal and wall preparationThe old casing is detached, pipe connections are isolated, and the old unit is taken down. We inspect the wall surface, line up the mounting brackets for the new shower, and align the cold water feed with the internal compression fitting.
- Electrical termination and plumbing connectionThe replacement unit is secured to the wall. We terminate the live, neutral and circuit protective conductors securely into the terminal block, connect the mains cold water supply, and fit the shower riser rail, hose and handset.
- Commissioning, testing and tidy completionWe prime the unit with cold water to remove trapped air before energising the heating elements. Electrical testing verifies earth continuity and insulation resistance, followed by running the unit across various temperature settings, clearing up all debris afterwards.

Can I replace my electric shower with a higher kilowatt model?
You can upgrade to a higher output unit only if your existing circuit can support the extra electrical load. Moving from an 8.5 kilowatt unit to a 9.5 or 10.5 kilowatt shower often demands a larger cable size, such as 10mm cable, and an upgraded circuit breaker. We inspect your existing cable and consumer unit before proceeding.
Does fitting an electric shower require a new consumer unit?
Not necessarily. If your existing consumer unit has an available spare way with residual current protection and adequate capacity, a new shower circuit can usually be added to the current board. If your fuse board lacks RCD protection or spare ways, we provide a clear written quote to update it.
Is electric shower work notifiable to building control?
Installing a completely new circuit in a bathroom is notifiable work under Part P of the building regulations. MX2 Electrical is registered with NAPIT, which means we test the circuit and complete the official notification directly. A simple like-for-like appliance swap on an existing sound circuit is generally not notifiable.
Do you carry out tiling or plastering repairs during shower replacement?
Our service covers the electrical installation, mechanical mounting, and connection to the existing cold water inlet pipe. We do not carry out general bathroom tiling, wall plastering or silicone re-sealing beyond the immediate casing of the unit.
Why did my previous electric shower stop producing hot water?
Electric showers typically stop heating because the internal heating element has burnt out, the thermal cut-out switch has tripped, or the microswitches have failed. In many instances, especially with older appliances, installing a brand new shower unit is more economical and reliable than sourcing individual spare parts.
