Electric shower installation across Bournemouth
We serve Bournemouth from our base in Poole.
What happens on the day
We turn up when planned, protect the work area, and isolate the supply before carrying out electrical or plumbing work on the shower.
- Circuit isolation and initial inspectionWe switch off the power to the shower circuit at the consumer unit and verify dead before removing the unit cover. We inspect the cable core sizes, insulation condition, and the double pole pull cord switch inside or outside the bathroom.
- Disconnection and mountingThe water supply is shut off at the local service valve. We remove the old unit, prepare the wall fixing holes, and mount the new shower chassis securely so it aligns with existing pipework and electrical entry points.
- Electrical and water terminationsWe connect the live, neutral and circuit protective conductors securely into the shower terminals, tighten the compression water fitting, and reassemble the front cover, riser rail, hose and handset.
- Testing and live commissioningPower and water are restored to test the unit across all temperature settings. We take insulation resistance and earth loop impedance readings to confirm the circuit disconnects safely if a fault occurs.

Can I replace a 7.5kW shower with a 10.5kW unit on the existing cable?
Not always. A higher kilowatt rating draws significantly more current. An existing 6mm cable that was adequate for 7.5kW may overheat under a 10.5kW load. We inspect the cable size, run length, and circuit breaker before confirming if the cable needs upgrading.
Do I need an RCD on the shower circuit?
Yes. Current electrical regulations require bathroom circuits and electric showers to be protected by a residual current device (RCD) to disconnect power rapidly in the event of an earth fault.
Is an electric shower replacement notifiable to building control?
A straightforward like for like replacement on an existing sound circuit is generally not notifiable. Installing a new circuit back to the fuse board for a shower in a bathroom is notifiable, and we handle this through our NAPIT registration.
Do you supply the new electric shower or do I buy it?
You can supply the unit yourself, or we can supply and fit a suitable model. If you purchase the shower, ensure the water and electrical entry sides match your bathroom pipework to minimise wall alterations.
Does the shower need its own isolation switch?
Yes. Every electric shower must have a dedicated double pole switch, typically a ceiling mounted pull cord switch or a wall switch sited outside the bathroom zone, allowing the unit to be isolated safely for maintenance.
