Can I replace my electric shower with a more powerful model?
Upgrading to a higher kilowatt rating is possible only if the existing cable diameter, isolator switch and protective device at the consumer unit can carry the additional electrical current. If the current wiring is too small, a new dedicated cable must be installed.
Does fitting a replacement electric shower require a new consumer unit?
A new consumer unit is not usually required if your existing board has an appropriate spare way or an existing dedicated shower circuit with adequate RCD protection. We inspect the consumer unit during the visit to confirm compatibility.
Is electric shower installation notifiable under building regulations?
Installing a new circuit in a bathroom is notifiable work. As a NAPIT registered business, MX2 Electrical notifies the local authority building control directly and provides you with the completed certificate. A direct like for like swap on an existing compliant circuit does not usually require notification.
What causes an electric shower to stop heating water?
Loss of hot water is typically caused by a failed internal heating element, a faulty thermal cut out switch, a damaged microswitch, or low mains water pressure triggering an internal safety shut off. We test the incoming electrical feed to isolate the fault.
Do you supply the new electric shower or do I purchase it?
We can supply a quality replacement unit matching your bathroom pipework and wiring layout, or we can fit a compatible shower unit that you have purchased yourself, provided its electrical rating matches your circuit.
