What happens on the day

Every installation follows a clear physical process to protect your home and ensure the new electric shower is fitted cleanly, wired correctly, and verified thoroughly.

  • Electrical isolation and circuit assessmentWe isolate power to the bathroom at the consumer unit, verify that the circuit is dead using approved test instruments, and examine the size of the existing cable, protective device, and ceiling pull-cord isolator.
  • Unit removal and mechanical fittingWe detach the old shower casing, disconnect the water pipework and electrical conductors, and mount the new shower securely to the bathroom wall. We connect the cold water inlet and wire the dedicated live, neutral, and earth terminations.
  • Electrical testing and commissioningWe restore the power supply, check the shower through its temperature settings, verify water flow, and measure earth loop impedance. When a new circuit is installed, we complete official certification through our NAPIT registration.

Frequently asked questions about electric showers

Still have a question?

Can I replace my electric shower with a more powerful model?

A higher kilowatt model heats water faster, but requires higher electrical current. If you move from a 7.5 kilowatt shower to a 9.5 or 10.5 kilowatt model, the existing cable and circuit breaker might be too small. We inspect the cable thickness and consumer unit to confirm whether the circuit can carry the additional load safely.

Do I need a new consumer unit to have an electric shower fitted?

Not necessarily. If your existing consumer unit has an available spare way, compatible circuit protection, and residual current device protection, an electric shower circuit can usually be added. If the board lacks space or modern safety devices, we quote for the necessary upgrades separately.

Is an electric shower replacement notifiable to building control?

A direct like-for-like replacement of a shower unit on an existing, sound circuit is generally not notifiable. However, installing a brand new shower circuit running back to the consumer unit is notifiable. As a NAPIT registered business, MX2 Electrical carries out the notification and supplies the official certificate when required.

Why does my electric shower pull-cord switch feel hot or stiff?

Electric showers draw substantial continuous power. Over time, loose terminations inside the switch or general wear can cause overheating and arcing, which damages the plastic and causes the switch to jam. We can inspect the switch, cut back heat-damaged conductor ends, and install a heavy-duty dual-pole isolator.

Do you repair the internal heating elements of broken showers?

Electric shower units contain sealed heating tanks, solenoid valves, and electronic control boards. When these components fail or burn out, sourcing individual internal spare parts is often impractical and uneconomical. Replacing the complete shower unit provides a fresh manufacturer warranty and ensures reliable heating.
