What happens on the day

Every installation follows an orderly electrical procedure designed to place equipment safely, protect domestic finishes, and verify all connections before system handover.

  • Positioning and cable routingWe confirm the mounting site for the battery and inverter, taking care of surrounding finishes. We measure and plan neat cable pathways between the unit position, the rotary isolators, and the main consumer unit before securing containment.
  • Mounting and dedicated circuit wiringThe battery bank and matching inverter are fixed firmly to structural wall brackets or solid flooring. We install an independent circuit from the consumer unit, complete with circuit protection devices, heavy cabling, and accessible rotary isolation switches.
  • Testing, commissioning, and system demonstrationMains electricity is briefly turned off to complete connections at the consumer unit. We test loop impedance and protective devices, power up the system, calibrate operating settings, connect monitoring software, and show you how to read consumption data.

Frequently asked questions about battery storage

Still have a question?

Can I install a battery system if I do not have solar panels?

Yes. A battery system can connect directly to your household consumer unit to charge from the mains grid. You can charge the unit during off-peak overnight hours when electricity rates are lower, then draw down that stored energy during the day to power your home.

Where can the battery and inverter be located?

Units are commonly positioned in garages, utility spaces, or ground-floor storage cupboards, provided the area allows adequate ventilation and sufficient wall strength. Outdoor installations are also possible using weather-rated enclosures mounted to exterior brickwork.

Will a battery keep supplying electricity during a power cut?

Standard grid-tied battery systems automatically disconnect during a power cut to prevent feeding power into the street network while engineers work. Continuous emergency backup requires specialized switchgear and a dedicated backup circuit specified at the design stage.

Do I need permission from the electrical network before fitting a battery?

Standard systems within G98 limits up to 3.68kW per phase simply require notification to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks within twenty-eight days of completion. Systems exceeding that capacity require prior G99 application approval, which we submit on your behalf.

How long will my electricity be switched off during the installation?

Power only needs to be isolated for a short period while we connect the new dedicated circuit and protective components into your consumer unit. Most mounting, cable containment, and external switchgear work is carried out while your mains power remains on.
