Frequently asked questions about battery storage

Still have a question?

Can I install a battery system without solar panels?

Yes. A standalone battery unit can connect directly to your mains electrical supply. It charges from the grid during lower-rate overnight tariffs and supplies your appliances during high-rate daytime periods.

Where can a battery storage unit be installed in a home?

Units are commonly installed in garages, utility rooms, or on suitable external walls. The location must offer adequate ventilation, clearance for maintenance, and structural strength to carry the unit weight.

How long does a standard battery installation take?

Most residential battery installations take between one and two days. This depends on the cable distance to your distribution board. Electricity is turned off only briefly when making the final board connections.

Do I need permission from the electrical network before installing?

Systems operating up to 3.68kW per phase usually fall under standard G98 regulations, allowing notification within 28 days of commissioning. Larger systems require advance G99 approval, which we manage on your behalf.

Will a battery storage unit work during a power cut?

Standard grid-tied battery storage systems switch off during an electrical power cut to protect engineers working on external lines. To maintain power during an outage, an emergency power supply or islanding switchgear must be incorporated into the installation.
