Electrical testing costs and pricing structure
The price of an inspection reflects the time needed to thoroughly test and document every circuit on the board. Rates depend on the size of the installation rather than an arbitrary estimate.

- Dead and live tests on the circuits that can be reached on the day

- A written EICR with C1, C2, C3 and FI observations
- A short talk through the findings before we leave

EICR across Bournemouth
We serve Bournemouth from our base in Poole.
What happens on the day
An inspection involves checking both accessible electrical accessories and internal consumer unit connections. We isolate circuits in stages to carry out testing while keeping unnecessary disruption to a minimum.
- Arrival and running order agreementWhen we arrive at your Bournemouth property, we locate the consumer unit, identify the areas served and talk through which sections need isolation first. This helps manage power interruptions for appliances, home working or building occupants.
- Physical inspection and electrical instrument testsWe open the consumer unit to check termination tightness, conductor sizing and protective devices. Using calibrated instruments, we complete dead tests for continuity and insulation resistance, followed by live testing for polarity and earth fault loops.
- Earthing and bonding verificationMetal water and gas service pipes require main protective bonding to prevent touch voltages during faults. We locate the bonding clamps, check earthing conductors at the intake position, and verify proper earthing connections.
- On-site review of observationsBefore leaving, we explain our findings in clear language. Any observation codes are highlighted so you understand whether the installation is satisfactory or requires remedial attention to clear safety hazards.

How often is an EICR required in Bournemouth?
For private rented domestic homes, regulations require an inspection at least every five years or at every change of tenancy. Commercial premises typically require testing every five years, while owner-occupied domestic homes are recommended to have an inspection every ten years or when buying or selling.
What do the safety codes on the report mean?
Codes indicate the level of risk. Code C1 means danger is present with risk of injury, requiring immediate action. Code C2 indicates a potential danger requiring urgent remedial work. Code C3 points out a recommended improvement that is not immediately unsafe. Code FI indicates that further investigation is needed into a specific circuit.
Will the electricity need to be switched off during the inspection?
Yes, the electrical power must be turned off for parts of the test. We isolate individual circuits to carry out insulation resistance and dead testing safely. We coordinate the sequence of testing to limit disruption, and power is restored before we finish the visit.
What happens if my Bournemouth property fails the EICR?
If an installation receives an unsatisfactory outcome due to C1 or C2 observations, remedial repairs must be carried out to achieve compliance. We explain what needs rectification and provide a separate quote for the remedial repairs so the necessary work can be completed.
Does the inspection cover portable appliances?
No, an electrical installation condition report only checks the fixed wiring, distribution equipment, light fittings and fixed socket outlets. Portable electrical items such as kettles, heaters and computers require separate portable appliance testing.
